Ingredients:
- 2 cups ground turkey, cooked
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
- Cook the Ground Turkey: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground turkey until it's no longer pink, breaking it up into small pieces with a spoon. This should take about 8-10 minutes. Drain any excess fat and let the turkey cool slightly.
- Prepare the Pumpkin Puree: If using fresh pumpkin, peel and cut it into chunks. Steam or boil the pumpkin until tender, then mash until smooth. If using canned pumpkin puree, ensure it's plain and unsweetened.
- Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats and turmeric. Stir until the turmeric is evenly distributed throughout the oats.
- Combine All Ingredients: Add the cooked ground turkey and pumpkin puree to the bowl with the oats and turmeric. Crack the egg into a small bowl and beat it lightly, then add it to the mixture. Use your hands or a spoon to mix everything together until well combined.
- Form the Patties: Scoop out small amounts of the mixture and form them into patties about 2 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick. Place each patty on the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
- Bake the Patties: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the patties are firm and lightly browned. You can flip them halfway through the baking time to ensure even cooking.
- Cool the Patties: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the patties to cool completely on a wire rack. Ensure they are fully cooled before serving them to your dog to prevent any burns.
- Store the Patties: Store any leftover patties in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. For longer storage, you can freeze the patties in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transfer them to a freezer-safe bag or container. Thaw before serving.
- Serving Suggestions: Serve the patties as a special treat or reward for good behavior. Break them into smaller pieces for training sessions or serve whole for a satisfying snack.
